In the beginning your new partial denture might feel a bit awkward or bulky. This is completely normal, and you will quickly become accustomed to wearing it. We do not recommend wearing your partial all day long the moment your receive it. Just like wearing a new pair of shoes we recommend to gradually work up to wearing it all day so you can get used to your new partial in a more natural and comfortable manner.
Chewing food might be difficult at first as you get used to your new partial denture. It is recommended to start with softer foods that are cut into smaller pieces. Then gradually moving onto other types of foods when you become more accustomed to your partial denture. Eating very hard or sticky foods is not advised as to avoid damaging the partial denture.
Speaking with your partial denture might also take some time getting used to. But, most people learn to speak properly with the denture in their mouth by reading out loud and repeating the words that are giving them problems until they can pronounce them properly.
To avoid damaging the partial dentures and to give your jaw and gums some time to rest be sure to take them out before going to sleep and putting them back in your mouth when waking up. Partial dentures might take a little time to get used to. But when you do, you can return to eating your favorite foods and speaking clearly without any impediment.
